Causes of Skin Darkening

Skin darkening is a natural response of the body to chronic irritation or prolonged friction. This irritation causes the skin to darken in color and thicken its upper layer. Various factors can continuously irritate the skin, including hair removal with wax or razors, friction due to weight, excessive use of cosmetic products, excessive sweating, and irritation from undergarments. Additionally, genetic predisposition and skin type also play significant roles in this condition.

TOPICS

    Laser Treatment for Skin Lightening

Laser treatment is an effective method for addressing skin darkening. Utilizing fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers, controlled micro-damage is created in the skin. This micro-damage prompts the body to send defense cells and fibroblasts to repair the affected area. Fibroblasts promote collagen production, which helps to firm the deeper layers of the skin, renew the upper layer, lighten the skin color, and enhance brightness.

    YAG Laser and Fractional Laser

Two main types of lasers used for skin lightening are YAG laser and fractional laser. The YAG laser affects the upper layers of the skin, creating a mild peeling effect, while the fractional laser penetrates deeper to initiate the healing process. After each session, the skin tone can lighten by half a shade to one full shade.
